:) i wish we could be immune from all of this but unfortunately life is nothing like that.. Has been few years already but such days will always remind us of how short a life can be and how scary it is to live in today's world.
And today is a beautiful day, and that day was too, in stark contrast to the events.

Well said. I really feel like people have forgotten what it was like on that day. The immense feeling of fear and loss was tangible, and for a few weeks it felt like we were all actually feeling the same thing. But here we are, seven years later, further apart than it seems like we have ever been. It is crying damn shame that people can so easily be provoked into demonizing one side or the other, regurgitating the talking points and rebuttals of their chosen candidate. Jess, I think you are right. Today we should try and come together and forget about the damn elephants and donkeys and remember that we are all in this thing together and that we are all just trying to make this great country greater than it is right now. If we could do that and hold on to just a miniscule fraction of what it felt like on that day – when you didn’t know what the hell was going on, where you were safe, or just how the hell this kind of thing could happen – all the bullshit that we bicker back and forth over today would seem more like the trivial nonsense so much of it actually is. Anyway, I will get off my cheesy soapbox now.

You are so right about the "petty issues." On 9.11.2001, our nation came together like I have never seen before. Petty issues were obliterated by "tragedy, death, and devastation" as you mentioned. It's too bad that we as a people, and our politicians, can't keep that spirit going for very long. I think it is essential that we foster that spirit, and work together, for the important issues that are common to us all.
