First, I want to say Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there! :)
That being said...this post is about a father, and it brings up a pretty serious topic...drunk driving. I've seen this discussed a lot lately, and when I saw this story I knew I needed to post about it.
Earlier this week a father of three gave his own life to shield his daughter from a driver under the influence.
In my opinion, drunk driving is horrible because the driver is not only putting them self in danger, but they're putting everyone's life in their own hands. So selfish!!!
My mother-in law's best friend died on her honeymoon at the hands of a drunk driver. Her husband survived.
It worries me that young adults these days do not take drunk driving seriously. They don't think about the dire consequences of their actions.

Jess, we can never be reminded too many times of this topic. Its a parents greatest fear because its the number one cause of death in teens. But we are ALL at risk because of the drunk drivers (Richie Sambora is still on my sh*t list).
I started cutting out every article I found on teens and drunk driving when my son was about 12 and still do. I know his friends drink and he's often the designated driver. They've already lost one friend last year :(
I lost a very good friend 17 years ago this July 4th when he had too much and wrapped himself around a tree. He didn't hurt anyone else. It was sad but I don't think he'd want me to focus on that. He was a good person, not a teenager, in fact he was the age or maybe a couple of years younger than I am now. It was a stupid error in judgement that cost him his life. I miss him and think of him and what our friendship would have been like today had he lived.

Didn't know that it was the #1 cause of death in teens. Pretty scary! I'm glad there are moms like you out there that educate their children about the dangers.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend.
I don't know the exact circumstances surrounding your friend, but I think it's cases like these that just add weight to the fact that people should not drive after heavy drinking...even if they think they can. It just seems safer not to...even if it means sleeping in the car for a night.
I will never get in the car with anyone who has been drinking. I always think of Ted. I have had arguments with people about this and sadly many do not understand and feel it is their right to make the bad judgement to drive anyway. It is selfish.
